Data, impact & visualisation team

A volunteer role in the data, impact and visualisation team: you report to the Research, Quality and Impact Lead. You work day to day with the Data Infrastructure Coordinator.

Assignments

  • Design questionnaires with the labs: research question, wording, question order, French and English versions
  • Choose the tool for each collection: Google Forms for simple questionnaires, KoboToolbox for fieldwork and offline entry
  • Define the sample, pilot each questionnaire with a small group and state each survey’s limitations in its publication
  • Prepare the impact assessment for every survey of young people with the Research Ethics Adviser and the Data Protection Coordinator
  • Collect age-appropriate consent: a parent’s agreement for under-fifteens in France, and the rule of the country of collection elsewhere
  • Clean and anonymise responses with the team’s Colab notebooks, then file the data in its place in the data library
  • Apply the small-count publication threshold that protects every respondent
  • Train the correspondents who collect data in the field, with the Correspondents Network Coordinator
  • Work with the Impact Evaluation Officer, who runs the surveys of volunteers and readers

Tools to master

  • Google Forms: simple questionnaires
  • KoboToolbox, on the European Union server and the association’s account: field collection, online and offline
  • Google Colab: cleaning and anonymisation
  • The team’s data library: the restricted surveys folder

How we measure success

  • GDPR-compliant surveys, from consent to the deletion of raw data
  • Results published with their method and limitations

Profile we are looking for

  • Training in survey methods, sociology, statistics or public health, or equivalent experience
  • Care for respondents and their data
  • Rigour in wording and processing questions

  • Survey experience in the field or with young people
  • Good English and French

What this role gives you

  • Running a full survey, from question to publication
  • Supervised practice in research ethics and data protection
  • Data collection with correspondents in several countries

The one-year commitment

A non-profit project is built over time. Every volunteer therefore commits for at least one year: time to settle in, carry the assignment through and pass on what they have learned. The weekly time depends on the role and is given in each role description.
