Making numbers readable and useful
Data, impact & visualisation team
A volunteer role in the data, impact and visualisation team: you report to the Research, Quality and Impact Lead. You work day to day with the Data Infrastructure Coordinator.
Assignments
- Build the team’s indicator dictionary: definition, source, unit, period, limitations
- Apply the OECD and Joint Research Centre handbook method to composite indices: normalisation, weighting, aggregation, uncertainty and sensitivity analysis
- Match the method to each question: descriptive statistics, fixed-effects panel data, then causal methods when the question and the data support them
- Review the labs’ analysis notebooks before publication: assumptions, calculations, interpretation
- Write the guides on indicators and statistical methods with the Research, Quality and Impact Lead
- Train the lab analysts in online workshops, using their own datasets
- Safeguard reproducibility: every published analysis comes with its notebook and script
Tools to master
- Python or R: analyses and models
- Google Colab: shared, reproducible notebooks
- GitHub: scripts and the indicator dictionary
What you will deliver
- An indicator dictionary linked to the team’s catalogue
- Guides on indicators and statistical methods
- Reasoned reviews of analysis notebooks
Profile we are looking for
- Solid training in statistics, econometrics or data science, or equivalent experience
- Hands-on Python or R
- Nuance in interpreting results
- Clear teaching when explaining a method
