Artificial intelligence & society
The lab · The Digital Palaver
The Digital Palaver questions artificial intelligence with the tools of the traditional palaver: machine memory, the future of rural life, education, digital sovereignty, cultural and linguistic bias, the future of work, the preservation of endangered languages and the ethics of automated decisions.
Discover the labAssignments
- Follow the law on artificial intelligence: the EU AI Act and its implementation timetable, the Council of Europe Framework Convention on AI, the African Union’s Continental AI Strategy
- Track data protection law in Africa and Europe: the Malabo Convention, national laws, supervisory authorities and their decisions

- Write short legal briefs that prepare the digital palavers and the lab’s analyses, in English or French
- Review the lab’s analyses from a legal angle before they go to the editorial board
- Work with the AI and Society Research Officer, who leads the lab’s monitoring, and with the AI Ethics and Governance Lead, who sets the rules for AI use at YouthShare
