AI around the world
AI around the world, seen by our five labs
Preparedness, use, public debate, digital access, youth, research: each lab sheds light on one side of artificial intelligence. Pick an angle, click on a country, compare.

Each country is placed by its latest known figure, from 2018 at the earliest. Its colour shows its class: countries are sorted into five groups of equal size, from lightest to darkest.
Rank and percentile follow the direction of each indicator: for youth not in employment, education or training, a lower figure means a better rank. Three common measures are left out on purpose, because they would rank countries misleadingly: youth unemployment, low where informal work dominates; the renewable share of energy, driven by traditional biomass (wood, charcoal) in the poorest countries; and high-technology exports, dominated by very small economies.
A lab score is the average of the percentiles of its indicators, computed when the country has at least half of them. It places the country among the others; it is not an absolute performance.
AI use is measured by the Anthropic Economic Index, from conversations with Claude: it is one assistant among others, and the index only covers countries with a large enough sample.
The comments are written from the figures on this page alone, with fixed thresholds. Borders follow Natural Earth and do not reflect any position of YouthShare; the smallest territories do not appear on the map but remain in the search.
